Solstice Ritual [Dec. 23rd, 2015|04:39 pm]
houseboatonstyx
Turned off the lights.

Opened the door.

Closed the computer.

Sat zazen, wrapped in (electric) blanket.

Sat mindful, without food or drink, watching the twilight dim outside the curtainless windows.

Finally turned on one small light next to the door.

Watched the colors of hanging coats and scarves glow deeper, brighter, as the trees slowly went from gray green to black.

Watched till the bird flew out the door. Yelled YEE-HAWWW! Jumped up and slammed the door.

Opened the computer and typed this.

Happy Solstice!

Um…so what part of the ritual involves getting the bird into the house?

That's a very focussed way to spend the evening! What sort of bird was it?

and a happy solstice to you, too! :)

Maybe wren-size? Dark blue-green. At very first, when he was glancing off windows with light behind them, I was afraid he was a big tropical moth, and how would I entertain him over the winter.

Got a few good looks when he perched on my desk lamp; not so visible when he perched on my head.
